Legal diary glossary

What does Dawa mean? دعویٰ

Dawa means a civil suit or claim filed in court; the written document is the plaint.

Civil suits are governed by the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908. Common examples are recovery suits, suits for declaration, and suits for permanent injunction.

A suit moves through stages — service of summons, written statement, framing of issues, evidence, arguments and judgment — each a separate date in the diary.
