Key takeaways

  • The Islamabad High Court publishes cause lists through its official website and information system (mis.ihc.gov.pk).
  • The Sindh High Court publishes cause lists and case status for Karachi, Sukkur, Hyderabad and Larkana via shc.gov.pk and cases.shc.gov.pk.
  • Cause lists are bench-wise and can be cancelled at short notice — check on the morning of the hearing.
  • When a list is cancelled, the office fixes fresh dates; follow up and record the new date.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) publishes its cause lists through its official website and its information system at mis.ihc.gov.pk (opens in a new tab), and the Sindh High Court (SHC) publishes cause lists and case status at shc.gov.pk (opens in a new tab) and cases.shc.gov.pk (opens in a new tab). Both courts list cases bench by bench. Because lists are sometimes cancelled at short notice, check again on the morning of the hearing.

Information only — not legal advice. If a page moves, start from the court’s home page.

How do I find the Islamabad High Court cause list?

  1. Open ihc.gov.pk (opens in a new tab) or go straight to mis.ihc.gov.pk (opens in a new tab).
  2. Open the cause list section and choose the date.
  3. Choose the bench — single bench or division bench, by judge.
  4. Search for your case number or scroll to your matter.

For case status, use the case search on the same system with the case type, number and year.

What should I know about IHC lists?

  • Lists are bench-wise. If you have matters before more than one judge on the same day, note each courtroom.
  • Lists are occasionally cancelled — for example when a judge is unavailable. News reports regularly note such cancellations, with fresh dates fixed by the Registrar’s office. Check on the morning of the hearing.
  • After a cancellation, follow up until a new date appears, and record it immediately.

How do I find the Sindh High Court cause list and case status?

The Sindh High Court sits at Karachi (principal seat), with a bench at Sukkur and circuit courts at Hyderabad and Larkana.

  1. Start at shc.gov.pk (opens in a new tab) for cause lists and notices.
  2. Use cases.shc.gov.pk (opens in a new tab) to search case status by station, case type, number and year.
  3. For judgments and orders, the case-law portal at caselaw.shc.gov.pk (opens in a new tab) lists them by bench and category.

A routine for any High Court

  1. Evening before: check tomorrow’s list for every matter; prepare files.
  2. Morning: check for supplementary lists and cancellations.
  3. In court: note the outcome and next date as soon as the case is called.
  4. After court: update your diary and inform clients.

Munshi helps with steps 1, 3 and 4: tomorrow’s list arrives on WhatsApp at 6 PM, and outcomes can be logged by voice in a sentence. See hearing reminders.

What details should I note from the list?

For every matter, copy four things into your diary the evening before:

  1. Bench and courtroom — single bench or division bench, and which judge.
  2. Serial number — your approximate place in the day.
  3. Case number and title — exactly as the list shows it, so you can ask the reader quickly.
  4. Heading — fresh, old, part-heard, for orders, for arguments. It tells you what preparation is needed.

If the same case is connected with others ("with C.P. No. ..."), note the connected numbers too. Connected matters are usually called together.

How do I handle clashes between benches?

Clashes are routine for litigators with High Court and district work on the same day. Practical options:

SituationCommon approach
Two High Court benches at onceAsk a colleague to hold brief in one; inform the reader politely
High Court and district courtAttend the matter where an order is more likely that day; send a junior to the other
Evidence day vs routine adjournmentPrioritise evidence — witnesses and record are at stake

Whatever you decide, write down who covers which matter on your own cause list, and confirm the outcome afterwards.

Common mistakes when reading High Court lists

  • Checking only the main list and missing a supplementary list.
  • Choosing the wrong station in Sindh (Karachi vs Sukkur, Hyderabad, Larkana).
  • Assuming a cancelled list means the case is dismissed — it usually means a fresh date will be fixed.
  • Relying on memory for the next date instead of writing it before leaving court.
  • Not telling the client about changes.

What about the Supreme Court and other High Courts?

The same routine works everywhere: official website, correct registry or bench, date, case number. Start at supremecourt.gov.pk (opens in a new tab), the Lahore High Court (opens in a new tab), Peshawar High Court (opens in a new tab) or Balochistan High Court (opens in a new tab). Our guide on checking case status online lists every official portal.

Summary

Use the official IHC and SHC portals, pick the correct bench or station, and always re-check on the day — cancellations happen. Then keep your own record of every next date.

Frequently asked questions

What happens when an IHC cause list is cancelled?

Cases on a cancelled list are not heard that day. Fresh dates are fixed by the court office, so follow up through the case status or the branch and record the new date.

Does the Sindh High Court publish separate lists for its benches?

Yes. The Sindh High Court sits at Karachi with a bench at Sukkur and circuit courts at Hyderabad and Larkana; choose the right station when searching.

Where can I find SHC judgments?

The Sindh High Court’s case-law portal publishes judgments and orders, which can be browsed by bench and category.

Are these portals available outside Pakistan?

Usually yes, but government sites can be slow or restricted from some networks. If a site doesn’t load, try again later.
