Civil adjournments are governed by Order XVII of the CPC and criminal adjournments by section 344 of the CrPC. Reasons range from the judge being on leave to a party seeking time.
Every adjournment creates a new date, so the outcome “adjourned” should always be paired with the next date.
How lawyers say it
“Judge chutti pe thay, adjourn ho gaya.” — The judge was on leave; adjourned.
In Munshi
When you say “iltiwa” in a voice note, Munshi stores it as adjourned so search and printed cause lists stay consistent.
