What does Istighasa mean? استغاثہ

Istighasa is a private criminal complaint filed directly in court by a person, instead of (or in addition to) a police FIR.

Private complaints are governed by Chapter XVI of the CrPC; under section 200 the court examines the complainant on oath and may then hold an inquiry or summon the accused.

Istighasa cases have their own sequence of dates — preliminary evidence, summoning, framing of charge and trial — which a diary should track separately from police cases.

In Munshi
